On Wednesday, Trump administration has announced that the U.S government is punishing 4 countries for being uncooperative for accepting their nationals facing deportation from the United States. The U.S State Department and the Department of Homeland Security issued a statement that they are implementing visa sanctions against Guinea, Cambodia, Sierra Leone, and Eritrea due to their governments have rejected or unreasonably delayed to accept their nationals ordered removed from the United States. The penalties would affect government officials who now will be banned from getting visas to visit the United States, for business or pleasure. Moreover, the measures will be broader for the nationals of Eritrea. The U.S. embassy in Asmara has immediately stopped visa issuance to all citizens looking a temporary visit to the United States for any purpose.

The U.S Department of Homeland Security said in August that it had asked the U.S State Department to issue sanctions against 4 countries, but didn’t disclose the names of countries at that time. The sanctions will take into effect from Wednesday, with the exception of Sierra Leone. Because there is a group of so-called recalcitrant countries identified by DHS as not cooperating on the acceptance of nationals that the U.S. is looking to deport. Along with the territory of Hong Kong, the remaining 12-member list consists of Cuba, Morocco, Myanmar, Iran, Vietnam, Laos, South Sudan, and China. The acting DHS Secretary Elaine Duke said in a statement that the International law obligates each country to accept the return of its nationals ordered removed from the United States, but Guinea, Cambodia, Eritrea, and Sierra Leone have failed in that responsibility.
