Suggest the Name for New British Research Vessel and Become Legend
The crowd-sourcing had provided some hard lessons to the British National Environment Research Council. The recent launched a public call by the independent science organization about the names for its new vessel. The initial press release indicated that it is considered an Antarctic Survey Ship and its cost is estimated at more than 300 million U.S dollars. The main objective in building this ship is to replace the James Clark Ross and (RSS) Royal Research Ships. It is also said that “we are looking for an encouraging name that should be specific to its work. The Science Minister Johnson has called the school students, teachers and interested one to participate in this great opportunity to suggest a name. This name will be given to this great British ship and will be shown at the sides of ship.
It is important that this press release has offered three names including Shackleton, Falcon and Endeavour. These names are offered to start this task, but still none of these names reached at the top of preferred entries list. Most important is that “Boaty McBoatface” has racked-up with the most votes and more than 27 thousand votes has pulled it at first place. Second suggested name is “RRS Henry Worsley”, other suggestions including “Not the Titanic, Usain Boat, It’s Bloody Cold Here and Clifford The Big Red Boat”. A former BBC presenter James Hand started the name “Boaty McBoatface” by indicating as a prank on the official page. A statement issued by NERC said that it is encouraging that a large number of people are participating in suggesting the name and it is considered “the spirit of fun”.
