Good Friday Means God’s Friday?
The Friday before Easter is known as Good Friday. It is a Christian’s day to honorably remember the torture and death of Jesus Christ. It is the event that provoked the suffering and dying of Jesus because all humans should reclaim the sacrifice of Jesus Christ, in spite of his believers of unbelievers. The codification has made awareness for many people to think about why the word “good” is being used by the Christians. It describe the day on which Jesus was mercilessly tortured and put him into death slowly and painfully. One of the important debates is about the origin of this specific name “Good Friday”, most of the people say that “good” is rewarded by the God.
Most of them considered that it is the day of God and named it as God’s Friday. A linguistics professor Anatoly Liberman from University of Minnesota described the relationship between the word Good and God. The Catholic Encyclopedia defines that the word Good Friday has came from the German Gute Freitag and this word is not specific to English. The German language defines the word Good Friday in German language as “Karfreitag”, means “A Sorrowful Friday”. Some experts believe that the word Good Friday was rewarded due to a great deal by the God. The general concept of Good Friday is that good is equivalent to Holy and Respectable.
