Food Bank Started its Operation to Provide Halal Food for Muslims in Minnesota

The Executive Director Fartun Weli of a non-profit organization Isuroon attempted to get Hennepin County, Minnesota in order to provide 150 thousand U.S dollars in 2014 to seed money for supporting to launch Halal food closet. Her major target was to provide food items struggling Muslim immigrants who were stick to religiously specified eating. Eventually, her request was rejected and Weli secured funding via charitable donations in order to get the food closet up and running. A story published on a website “Fresh News USA” on 26^th August 2016 that Muslim community is demanding Halal food. Conversely, this issue has been resolved. A local news outlet “South West Journal” also reported on 14^th June 2016 that a charity has been opened by Weli with funding from the Center for Urban & Regional Affairs of University of Minnesota.

It was confirmed from Weli and county’s office of the commissioner that there wasn’t any kind of government money used for the food bank operation. The county has just one standing operation named Legacy contract at the time when Weli made her first request. The County Commissioner Peter McLaughlin informed that there was a major fund provider named Brian Shekleton. The Minneapolis City officials made confirmation that municipality didn’t provide any type of fund for food closet operations. These food closets also know as food banks and these are being operated by charities. Weli said that food bank was opened and operational on 34^th and Nicollet in Minneapolis with seed funding collected from Seward. It is important that Seward had discussed its partnership with Isuroon in a post on 18^th December 2014.
