The U.S Department of Justice had suggested a list of specifications for smart-guns manufacturers in the month of June. It was a groundwork outline of important features specifically needed by the law enforcement agencies regarding pistol safety technology in the future. This law includes a plenty of safety features, fool proof solutions and requirements for replaceable & rechargeable batteries. Now, the U.S government has made official to this draft. The finalized version of those guidelines is seemingly a draft. The security devices in pistol should have the capability to disable the firing ability of weapon if it is in the control of an unauthorized person. So, security features of smart-gun should be considered an essential part of the weapon. There should be some integrated external verification accessories such as tokens, rings or wristbands.

Most of the draft guidelines are regarding the security features permissions for a smart-gun and repairing operation and firing permission. The requirements for owner to unlock the weapon, in the case of security features malfunctioning of firearms. The Department said that this project was designed to encourage the technology of gun safety without preventing innovation by selecting a standard instantly. These are well developed guidelines and one should remember that these are optional and it should be considered a voluntary list of specifications. There would be an excellent option for the industry to adopt these guidelines of security features. These are not just standards but a baseline requirement for government buyers proposed by the law enforcement agencies and the Department of Justice needs to see in the future regarding smart-guns.
