Donald Trump can prevent Trade Fight with China
The former U.S Commerce Secretary, Carlos Gutierrez said that the political philosophy has driven the U.S President Donald Trump in picking a nationalist trade fight with China. Gutierrez (served as commerce secretary in the administration of George W. Bush) added that he wishes they had a World Philosophy Organization in keeping the focus on people that are going down the road. The isolationist had increased the trade tension with China when Donald Trump informed the U.S voters that they weren’t getting an increase in their salary as they needed and U.S people were left behind, but it wasn’t their fault and it was due to trade. Point to be noted that Gutierrez is a strategic consultant with the former U.S Secretary of State Madeline Albright. He added that the United States can negotiate a trade deal to prevent a fight with China.
Former New Zealand prime minister Jenny Shipley was scathing of the language being used. “The elevated language around war is completely inappropriate … I think we should be cautious in using the language of war. The history of that is well known,” she said. Shipley urged G20 leaders to take action, and pick up the phone to the US and China, to remind them of the unintended consequences. Negotiations between the US and China were needed to solve “the challenge of our times rather than a war”. “It is important we don’t stand back like paralysed people,” she said. Gutierrez said he didn’t think the World Trade Organisation could provide a solution, and he saw a future with a new trade framework for the US and China to coexist even if though have very different systems.
