DHS Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen was berated by Trump
The U.S President Donald Trump berated the Secretary of Homeland Security, Kirstjen Nielsen in the Cabinet meeting on Wednesday for not doing more to secure the borders. Source has indicated that the U.S President lashed out at other Cabinet members at the White House meeting, but harshest comments of Trump were directed at Nielsen. The anger of U.S President was stoked by Attorney General Jeff Sessions. He remarked that the DHS (Department of Homeland Security) just has the ability to arrest people at the border. It is important that DHS oversees U.S. Customs and Border Protection. Nielsen recently worked with state governors to send contingents of National Guard troops to help secure the border after Trump called for them to do so.
It was first reported by the New York Times on Thursday afternoon that the U.S President Trump had berated Nielsen. She reportedly informed colleagues that she was thinking to resign as there were several former and current officials were present at the meeting. The Times reported that Nielsen is looking to submit a resignation, but hasn’t yet submitted. The spokesperson of DHS, Tyler Houlton confirmed the report of Times was false that Nielsen prepared a resignation letter and she was close to resigning. The press secretary of White House, Sarah Sanders informed ABC News in a statement that the U.S President is well committed to fixing loop-holes in the U.S immigration system and our borders. On Thursday evening, Nielson also issued her own statement that the U.S President justifiably frustrated, but she is still on the job.
