Kirsten Hillman says Justin Trudeau and Joe Biden have Warm and Good Relationship

On Sunday, Canadian ambassador to the United States Kirsten Hillman said that President-elect Joe Biden’s economic policy is slightly more protectionist than Canada’s thoughts, however, the two countries have shared visions on many issues. Point to be noted that the incoming US administration of Biden’s Buy America policy is worrying to Canada. However, Ottawa has been quick to embrace President-elect in an effort to turn the page on the Donald Trump era. The ambassador Hillman informed Canadian Broadcasting Corp and said, “I do think that he’s been pretty clear around some of the aspects of his economic policy that are a little more protectionist than we would want to see”. Biden’s economic program promises a $400 billion investment in US-made goods.

President-elect also said, “When we spend taxpayer money, we should buy American products”. Most experts believe that it could harm Canada because its economy is highly dependent on the United States because it takes 75% of all Canadian goods exports. It is noteworthy that the two countries have a common agenda on many other policies, other than that. Canadian ambassador to the United States said, “We are both focusing on, first and foremost, combating COVID, ensuring the safety and health of our citizens, respecting science”.

Canadian ambassador Hillman added, “There’s a lot of alignment on climate policy. So, I mean, the list is long of policy coordination”. Most economic experts say the Biden administration will offer more relaxations in order to strengthen relations between both countries. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has much riding on his ties with Biden mired in a long-running diplomatic dispute with China and weighing a possible snap election this year. It is important that ambassador Hillman said Canadian PM Trudeau and newly-elected US President Joe Biden have a very warm and good relationship. So that is definitely going to be an asset.
