A US Attorney appointed to investigate spying on Trump’s 2016 campaign
Reports have indicated that attorney general William Barr has appointed a U.S attorney to investigate how the probe into Russian interference started in the 2016 presidential election, and whether laws were broken during intelligence was collecting data on the Trump campaign. The assignment was initially reported on Monday night. It comes after the attorney general informed U.S Senators last month that spying did happen on the Trump campaign in 2016. He also said at the time that he wasn’t sure that anything illegal had occurred.
The appointment addresses a recurring theme for Donald Trump’s supporters, who have claimed that the Obama Justice Department and FBI had unlawfully spied on the president’s campaign. Democrats have also claimed that the allegations from Republicans are designed as a diversion from special counsel Robert Mueller’s report, which found that Russia did attempt to help Trump’s 2016 campaign. Mueller said in his report that there was no criminal conspiracy between Trump’s campaign and the Kremlin.
But, Mueller report said that the president couldn’t be exonerated in questions regarding Trump’s potential obstruction over the Russia probe. On Tuesday, Trump said that he didn’t ask Barr to begin the probe, but he said that he thinks it’s a great thing that he did it. Trump informed reporters outside the White House,”I saw it last night. And, they want to look at how that whole hoax got started. It was a hoax. And even Mueller is not a friend of mine even Bob Mueller came out with no collusion”.
