Ajit Pai Officially Appointed as FCC Chairman for Next 5 Years
The Axios has reported on Tuesday that the U.S President Donald Trump has officially appointed the current FCC Chairman Ajit Pai for next 5-year term on the commission. He has been considered one of the opponents of net neutrality. His first term was officially expired on 1st July, 2016, but the FCC commissioners are authorized to continue their working for the agency at least for one year. So, it granted Pai to perform the role as the chairman when Tom Wheeler demoted in the month of January 2017. But, Pai still needed to be confirmed officially again by the U.S Senate. The timing of reappointment by Donald Trump match with the appearance of Ajit Pai was just before the session of the Senate Commerce Committee planned on Wednesday.
It has been assumed that his confirmation will be finalized after hearing. The next 5-year term will technically be started after the expiration of his last term. It means that he might stay to work as the Chairman of FCC until 2021. Except the post of Pai, the U.S President Trump will also appoint for 2 other posts for the FCC. The commission rules identifies that one seat is assigned for a Republican and the other must be assigned for a member from different party. The Axios also pointed out that Indiana State Senator Brandt Hershman and free-market scholar Rosalyn Layton have been nominated as supposed Republican commissioners. Point to be noted that Obama had nominated the current commissioner Jessica Rosenworcel but he will be stayed at the seat of Dem.
