Amy Klobuchar announced to run for U.S President against Trump in 2020
A Democratic Senator Amy Klobuchar has made an announcement from her home state of Minnesota. She announced to run for president of the United States in 2020. Klobuchar delivered her words to supporters during heavy snow swirling. She said in Minneapolis, “As your president, I will look you in the eye, I will tell you what I think, I will focus on getting things done and no matter what, I’ll lead from the heart”. Klobuchar became the 5th Democratic senator to join a historically diverse field of candidates looking to defeat the U.S President Donald Trump in 2020.
Klobuchar declared during her speech as central concerns to her campaign a list of causes often celebrated in the Democratic Party. These include removing money from politics, addressing climate change, expanding voting rights, and improving healthcare. She added, “We are tired of the shutdowns and the showdowns, of the gridlock and the grandstanding. Our nation must be governed not by chaos but by opportunity. It is time to organize the time to galvanize and time to take back our democracy”.
Trump responded to the announcement of Klobuchar and remarked on the local weather, seemingly confusing it with the global climate. He wrote on Twitter, “Well, it happened again. Amy Klobuchar announced that she is running for President, talking proudly of fighting global warming while standing in a virtual blizzard of snow, ice, and freezing temperatures. Bad timing. By the end of her speech, she looked like a Snowman (woman)”!
Klobuchar became the 1st woman senator from Minnesota in 2006. She has worked for 8-years as the attorney for Hennepin County (the largest county of the state). She focused on the issues repeatedly came during the Democratic primaries. She claimed to have the capability of appealing to a geographically diverse group of voters. These voters include blue-collar white voters as they shocked the nation in 2016 by voting for Trump in various key states including Klobuchar’s home state, Minnesota.
