Can Coconut Oil be used in the Treatment of Alzheimer’s disease?
The reason of Alzheimer’s is still undiscovered, though theories overspread. Some witnesses suggest that there might be one reason related to the shortage of glucose metabolism in specific parts of the brain, as mentioned in a case study published in 2014 in Frontiers in Aging Neuroscience. The brain has been considered one of the major metabolically active organs in a body. It almost relies exclusively on glucose for its energy needs under most conditions. The CMRglc (Cerebral Metabolic Rate of glucose) can be measured using a chemical tracer. The studies on Chemical tracer in the early 1980 compared AD subjects with normal controls. It discovered a significant amount of DCGM (diminished cerebral glucose metabolism) in AD patients.
The study indicated that coconut oil contains a high level of medium-chain fatty acids. It breaks down into ketones in your stomach. The ketones can be used a source of energy for brain and this process is known as ketosis. There are some useful suggestions that ketones might help in picking the slumbering in a glucose-needy brain suffering from Alzheimer’s. A study published in Neurobiology Aging in 2014 compared the cerebral effects of patients with mild to regulate Alzheimer’s after being treated with a single dose of a specific chain of fatty acid contained in coconut oil. Just a single 40gram dose of Caprylic triglyceride (a fatty acid) convinced mild ketosis and a significant amount of positive relationship. The scientific research in this field is still needs more research in finding perfect solution and just coconut oil shouldn’t be considered a final solution in the treatment of Alzheimer’s disease.
