Democrats Members not allowed to use ZTE and Huawei Phones
Huawei has become the second largest smartphone seller in the world after beating the Apple, but it shouldn’t be considered that everyone is now a fan of Huawei. CNN also reported that the Democratic National Committee has warned candidates running in November against using devices manufactured by Huawei and fellow Chinese manufacturer ZTE. The DNC chief security officer Bob Lord wrote a warning for members that it is very important that party and campaign workers should not use ZTE or Huawei devices, even their prices are low or free. Lord issued the warning after discovering that a Democratic organization was planning to buy ZTE phones for its staff. He also said that members shouldn’t consider phones from either brand even if they are for their personal use. The report of CNN didn’t indicate whether Lord explained why he is confusing party members for using Huawei or ZTE.
It is important that his warning echoes the one U.S intelligence agencies issued back in February. The FBI, CIA, and NSA informed the American public that they don’t recommend buying any Huawei products and services. It is due to deep concerns regarding the risks of allowing any company or entity that is beholden to foreign governments in order to gain positions of power inside the telecommunications network of the United States. On the other hand, ZTE was banned from working with American companies after shipping telecom equipment to Iran and North Korea. The U.S Commerce Department lifted the ban in the month of July, in spite of the Senate’s stance on the issue. The Department considers the DNC was the target of a cyber attack during the Presidential Elections 2016.
