Federal Employees Private Data Stolen

Last week, a federal worker union issued a statement that a massive Office of Personnel Management data hacked and it has damaged more than the government is admitting regarding loss. The employees of American Federation of Government confirmed that the hackers have stolen the social security numbers of every present federal employee and retiree.  The Associated Press has confirmed that it has a letter which is addressed to the OPM and it was written by J. David Cox the President of AFGE. This letter describes the other types of stolen information from the database of OPM. The military information and records including birth date, job and payment history, life insurance and health insurance, pension information, age, gender and other data. The Wall Street Journal also reported that Hackers were inside the system for more than a year.

Cox blamed that failing of agency that didn’t take proper and perfect security measures in order to protect federal workers. More than 780 different pieces of information were in the record for each person. Most of the experts believe that Social Security Numbers didn’t encrypted, but there is failure of Cyber Security, which is not defensible and exorbitant. Cox and his team could not access to the investigation and they are only giving answers for questions according the information from OPM’s sources. One of the spokesperson from the OPM denied all the allegations about the loss is bigger than the reported. Spokesperson told the NBC News that only 4.2 million total people were affected including one million retirees, 2.1 million current federal employees and more than 1.1 million other workers have been affected.
