First Woman Muslim Judge Sheila Found Dead in Hudson River
The 1st black woman appointed in the New York State Court of Appeals, Sheila Abdul Salaam has died. She was the 1st Muslim judge in the United States. He body was found in the Hudson River. A spokesman from the New York Police Department informed that police responded to an emergency call on 12th April 2017. The police officers discovered an unknown, unresponsive and insensible female in the water. The New York Post also indicated that husband of Sheila earlier reported about her missing. Her husband later identified discovered body as her wife Sheila Abdul Salaam. The initial reports have mentioned that there wasn’t any sign of trauma or injuries to indicate criminal or foul play activity. It was assumed that her death might be a suicide.
Reports have indicated that Sheila Abdul Salaam earned a considerable amount of respect from her colleagues. Robert Kelner (veteran New York trial lawyer) called the judge “A Brilliant Person”. He met Sheila 20-years ago at a Columbia Law School event. She was a person who really made massive efforts to be a well-reputable and honest judge in resolving issues. Sheila Abdul Salaam was 65-years old and she was elected in 1993 to the Supreme Court of the State. She served on that post until 2009. She was appointed in 2013 by the New York Governor Andrew Cuomo and issued a statement on social media regarding her death. The investigating is underway and police hasn’t yet announced the cause of her death.
