Fox News guest Geraldo Rivera says Trump is a Civil Rights Leader
Geraldo Rivera is a regular contributor on the conservative news channel, now appeared as Fox News guest. He has claimed the U.S President Donald Trump is a Civil-rights Leader because of low African-American unemployment levels during his presidency. He made the claim in a segment amid Martin Luther King Day and the appearance of the U.S President at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Netherlands. Rivera informed in Fox & Friends that he thought awful for the president because Trump has had to answer the question at the summit regarding his impeachment trial. He added, “This is an economic summit. The American economy is the envy of the world. I call him, to great controversy, a civil-rights leader, especially yesterday on Martin Luther King Day”.
Rivera also said, “African American unemployment, lowest it’s ever been. Latino unemployment, lowest it’s ever been. This rising tide is lifting all boats, we should be celebrating”. Point to be noted that the African-American and Hispanic unemployment rates have truly reached record lows in 2019. The official unemployment rates were recorded in August at 5.4% and 3.9% in the month of September 2019. But, the African-American unemployment rate was at 5.9% and the Hispanic unemployment rate was at 4.2% in December 2019. Trump often claimed about low levels of African-American unemployment as one of his major achievements. He also mentioned it in a tweet for Martin Luther King Day.
Trump wrote on Monday, “It was exactly three years ago today, January 20, 2017, that I was sworn into office. So appropriate that today is also MLK Jr DAY. African-American Unemployment is the LOWEST in the history of our Country, by far”. It is noteworthy that the President’s record on civil rights has repeatedly come under criticism from campaigners and activists. The FBI reported in November that threats and violent hate crimes in the United States had reached their highest levels in 16 years. The President faced widespread criticism in July when he said “Go Back” to 4 congresswomen of color.
