Fusion GPS information doesn’t Comply with Requirements: Nunes
On Monday, a letter obtained by Business Insider has indicated that Fusion GPS is planning to decline the request of Rep. Devin Nunes (the chairman of committee) to testify prior to present panel by entreating constitutional benefits. A research firm produced the disputed information database having unverified allegations regarding President Trump and Russia. This information actually doesn’t comply with the requirement of the Intelligence Committee of the House. The counsel of Fusion GPS, Josh Levy indicated in the letter that the attorney work is to provide a guideline on the prescribed constraints. We can’t do anything in good ethics, but we advise our clients to stand on their constitutional benefits. The attorney further added that the requirement would violate the First Amendment rights for the 3 founders of the firm.
He further added that it would also frustrate future candidates who are running for public office from conducting confidential opposition research in an election. He said,”Should you compel any of our 3 clients to appear at the scheduled deposition, they will quote their constitutional benefits not to testify”. Nunes issued the orders on 4th October by asking for materials and testimony on the opposition research from Fusion GPS. Point to be noted that the California lawmaker took a step back from leading the inquiry of the panel regarding the influence of Russia during the U.S Presidential campaign. An ethics investigation was initiated about his meetings on the issue and coordinating with the White House. It is important that Nunes has the sole authority to sign off on the orders of the committee as a Chairman without any consultation with minority members of the panel.
