Government Data Breach of 10,000 Records: U.S Bank Authority
We often think that breaches to government data is always a work of foreign hackers or disappointed employees. Most of the time, there would be a staffer or employee and we considered it as not a security-risk. The Currency Comptroller Office of the United States has warned that at least 10 thousand activities and record of staff have been stolen by a worker just before his retirement in the month of November 2016. The worker (didn’t provide name) copied an extra amount of records and files in two thumb drives, but when authorities asked from him regarding data, he was unable to find thumb drives to give back data. It has been considered one of the major events in practically increasing risk to the government data.
Point to be noted that data was encrypted in a perfect manner to avoid damage or loss such as this current event. It was confirmed that the authorities haven’t yet find any report that any kind of private or controlled information has been reached into wrong hands. It is important that the main issued was that OCC had left this data at the first place. In the month of August 2016, the agency implemented a dedicated policy in order to push those employees behind the bars, allegedly found in transferring sensitive data onto any removable storage medium without the approval of supervisor. But, authorities came too late to solve the thumb drive issue.
