Governor of Georgia Brian Kemp appointed Kelly Loeffler for U.S Senate Seat
The Republican governor of Georgia Brian Kemp has appointed an Atlanta businesswoman to take over a U.S Senate seat, in a rare act of defiance of Donald Trump by a member of his own party. Kemp named Kelly Loeffler to take over after senator Johnny Isakson retires at the end of the year. It is noteworthy that the U.S President Donald Trump had reportedly pressed for the seat to be filled by Congressman Doug Collins. But, the pick is not exactly what the U.S President may have needed, it is unlikely Loeffler.
Kelly Loeffler is an executive at a commodities trading firm in Atlanta and a prominent GOP donor. Some political figures said that it will present much of a headache for the president. Loeffler also issued a statement and identified herself as “A lifelong conservative, Pro-Second Amendment, Pro-military, Pro-wall, and pro-Trump”. She has also indicated that she plans on running to retain the seat during the 2020 election and it is expected that she would share a ticket with Trump.
Point to be noted that President Trump won 50.4% of the vote in the state against Hillary Clinton‘s 45.3 %. It is still unclear that the next election will be as smooth for the president. The Morning Consult has indicated that the president’s net approval in Georgia has dropped by a cumulative 21 points since taking office. Currently, at least 49% of the state disapproves of his job performance, compared to 46% who approve of it. It is important that 53% of the state-approved of him when he took office and just 35% disapproved.
