The NSA contractor Harold Thomas Martin was arrested very quietly in the month of August due to stealing a significant amount of important documents from the agency. Now, the next phase of investigation has started regarding those documents found in the computers of Martin. The investigators have found that they are investigating from the scratch level. The New York Times also reported that some important documents include top secret hacking tools of NSA as these tools were posted online at the start of current year by a group “Shadow Brokers”. The Federal investigators have made a deep search for multiple terabytes of data to discover those hacking tools. It is important that 2.6 terabytes data of classified materials including Panama Papers and Edward Snowden’s documents discovered from Martin’s home.

Point to be noted that the U.S Navy Veterans has been working on intelligence for a long time. It was considered a part of Tailored Access Operations of NSA and it was the same team made the hacking tools stolen by Martin. The former employee of NSA, Dave Aitel said in an interview with New York Times that this leak brought a massive damage in the ability of the country in defending against enemies. These tools can be used to identify rival hacking capabilities of countries. These tools have the ability to block any expected incoming cyber-attack. The investigators have linked these tools to Martin and they are still working hard in finding whether he released or someone stole these tools from him. The investigators mentioned that Martin is considered a careless contractor due to he used these tools on an unprotected machine.
