Islam Appreciation Week Celebrated at the American University Wisconsin
A website “Conservative Daily Post” published an article on 4th December 2016 and reported that the school administrators at the University of Wisconsin-Madison had demanded from female students to wear jijabs or head covering during “Islam Appreciation Week”. The article further explained that the administrators in an American school had demanded from female students to wear head covering or hijab to present their support for Islam week. Every event often starts with a single step in Wisconsin and the first step of the week was to encourage the American women to show unity with traditional American Muslim women. The major objective of this activity was to experience firsthand for college-aged women that how it looks and what they feel after wearing hijab as specific to Muslim women.
The “Islam Appreciation Week” was conducted by the University of Wisconsin Muslim Student Association and the Wisconsin Union Directorate Global Convention. It is important that any student of the University was forced to wear head covering or hijabs. Several other events were also conducted by the Muslim Student Association during Islam Appreciation Week. Additionally, group discussions were also arranged during Hijab for a Day event including community dinner and ice-cream for the participants. All the conducted events by the Association were open for all students, but nobody was forced to attend this event. But, the website “Conservative Daily Post” falsely indicated that the University of Wisconsin-Madison forced all female students of the University to wear Hijabs or head covering. The Daily Cardinal newspaper also reported that just 45 Non-Muslim female students were participated in this event.
