A British politician Jeremy Bernard Corbyn is the Leader of Labor Party and Leader of the Opposition. He alleged Boris Johnson of providing cover to the U.S President Donald Trump over the killing of Iran’s top general Qassem Soleimani. It is due to his dependency on a post-Brexit trade deal with the U.S President. Corbyn branded the drone strike on the leader of Iran’s feared Quds Force as an assassination. He informed the House of Commons that it was widely regarded as illegal. He blamed the British Prime Minister of hiding away from scrutiny after Johnson sent defense secretary Ben Wallace to answer MPs’ questions on the 3 January killing in Baghdad.

The defense secretary dismissed the Labor leader’s comments as anti-American, anti-imperialistic guff. He also insisted that he had seen evidence suggesting there was a case of self-defense to be made by Washington, which has claimed Soleimani was in Iraq in relation to an imminent attack on the U.S interests. Wallace also informed the Commons, “The United States is confident that General Soleimani came to Baghdad to co-ordinate imminent attacks on American diplomats and military personnel. The UK will always defend the right for countries to defend themselves”. Corbyn stressed what evidence the UK had seen to support the U.S claim of a targeted attack.

Wallace said, “From the information and intelligence I have seen, it is clear that there was a case of self-defense to be made regarding an individual who had come to Iraq to co-ordinate murder and attacks on the U.S citizens”. It is noteworthy that Trump threatened Iraq with sanctions if its government acted on a vote in the Baghdad parliament and told Western troops to leave. Wallace said the UK needs to keep its own military personnel in Iraq. He said, “We are trying to get them to say that it’s in your best interest for us to remain. But, we will respect Iraqi sovereignty. If they require us to leave, that is their right and we will respect it”. Corbyn said, “He is hiding behind his defense secretary. Isn’t the truth that he is scared to stand up to President Trump”?
