Monkeypox Virus cases are rapidly increasing around the World
The rapid arrival of monkeypox in various countries has lifted questions regarding the virus. However, the virus has managed to spread most commonly in Central and West Africa. Most health experts have indicated that the cases of monkeypox in 12 countries aren’t causing more agitation. They said the virus is unusual and considered less harmful or barely deadly compared to the Covid-19.
It is noteworthy that monkeypox cases first reported in 1970 were detected only in Central Africa and West Africa. A traveler reportedly got infected when he eventually returned home to the UK. However, those cases didn’t prompt major outbreaks. The owners of pets imported from affected regions were infected. Most experts believe imported animals such as rodents were sources of transmission.
The WHO declared Monkeypox widespread and a Pandemic
Moreover, the World Health Organization recently said that monkeypox cases are increasing in non-widespread countries. But there wasn’t any connection discovered to travel or animals in most confirmed or suspected cases of monkeypox virus. There are various theories about suddenly increasing cases and experts suggest the protection from smallpox vaccines is effective.
The head of the biosecurity program at the Kirby Institute, Prof. Rain Macintyre issued a statement. She said the reduction in immunity from smallpox vaccination is supposedly due to increasing outbreaks of the monkeypox virus. Macintyre also said massive vaccination for smallpox virus was eventually stopped 40-50 years ago.
The Smallpox Vaccine is effective against Monkeypox
However, the smallpox vaccine effectively provides powerful protection against monkeypox. The journal PLOS Neglected Tropical Diseases published a study in February. The study warned that monkeypox cases were increasing and endorsed vaccination to stop widespread smallpox. It has also motivated the WHO to declare the widespread monkeypox virus an epidemic.
Keep in mind that massive smallpox vaccination never happened in some countries with detection of the virus. Most virologists pointed out the increasing numbers of cases prior to the world health agency issuing alerts in May. There were indications for massive worldwide monitoring and discovery of monkeypox cases before the current outbreaks in various countries.
Monkeypox doesn’t involve human-to-human contact
Moreover, cases were again discovered between 2010 and 2019 in Sierra Leone and Liberia after around 40-years of disappearance. Health workers and researchers worldwide are also alert to symptoms of viruses since the beginning of the widespread Covid-19. The researchers are now quicker to report any unusual thing. Their efforts efficiently contributed to the detection of monkeypox cases.
Most health experts believe that the monkeypox virus isn’t involved in human-to-human spread. One study also indicated that 3% could become infected with a close connection to the monkeypox-affected person. But the sudden increase in cases has pointed to the possibility of stoppage measures to control the spread of the virus.
It isn’t a Sexually Transmitted Disease
However, more data and laboratory analysis are essential to discover the infected people. The monkeypox virus has been around for the past several years so it shouldn’t be considered a rare disease. The virus supposedly takes advantage of an ideal situation. The monkeypox disease spread among humans after having a close physical connection with an infected person.
Moreover, monkeypox symptoms include pus-filled injury developing on the skin and a close connection with fluid from a rash. The spread of the virus also includes dirty clothing and bedding. The recent outbreak also includes men who have sex with men. But health experts didn’t declare it a sexually transmitted disease or pointing spread to specific communities.
