The self-driving fleet of Uber is now moving on the streets of Tempe, Arizona. Point to be noted that Uber has moved its fleet of 16 advanced self-driving Volvo XC90 SUVs to Arizona due to no extra restriction on self-driving vehicles. The company moved its fleet after a disagreement with the California Department of Motor Vehicles in the month of December 2016. The Governor Doug Ducey warmly welcomed the company. Now, some residents of Arizona are able to get a ride in autonomous Uber. The Arizona residents can forward their request to UberX in Tempe (the home of Arizona State University). So, if an autonomous vehicle is available, your request will be accepted for a trip.
The pricing will remain the same and the each Volvo has the ability to pick up to 3 riders because every autonomous SUV will have one Uber employee on the front seat due to safety requirements. The Uber riders can also cancel the request if they need a traditional human driver instead. It has been considered the 2nd public test of self-driving ecosystem from Uber. The company introduced a small number of autonomous Ford Fusions in Pittsburgh in the month of September 2016. This test had a rocky start with a number of accidents reported due to close calls and wrong-way driving. But, none of those cars have been involved in critical and major accidents. It is important that the CEO of Uber also ordered an investigation regarding the female employees were sexually harassed at the company.
