Now License Plates Record of Visitors at San Francisco Airport will be Recorded
You might expect a specific amount of tracking by security cameras when you visit to the airport. The International Airport of San Francisco is looking to enhance its security elements. So, the travel hub has received authorization from the Airport Commission in order to gather the license plate information of everyone that is using its roads and garages, and this data to be stored for over 4 years. It is supposedly designed to collect revenue from commercial drivers and parking, such as taxis. It is important that San Francisco has endorsement to provide that info to both the FBI and local law enforcement. It would raise eyebrows among privacy support. Matt Cagle of ACLU also warned that the San Francisco International Airport might become a “Honeypot” for police in order to collect information regarding any visitor, either or not they committed a crime.
It is still unclear that why San Francisco wants to keep entire license plate data. If there isn’t any reason to uphold plate info, it should be erased within a matter of days. At the other hand, it is legal as the airport imposed its new policy in response to a law that needs public security measures and acknowledgement for the collection of license plate data. Point to be noted that the act of scooping up license plates is legal theoretically. But, it is important that whether or not San Francisco is gathering such info in a responsible way, it is not clear that this is the actual case. At least 53 million passengers travel from San Francisco International Airport every year and it will be helpful in catching terrorists and thieves.
