NSA confirmed that Russian Intelligence Targeted U.S Voting Systems
The Intercept published top-secret documents of the National Security Agency. These documents have indicated that Russian military intelligence agency penetrated in a U.S voting-software company and managed a secret campaign and targeted at least 100 local election officials. So, the cyber-attacks happened before and during the days of U.S Presidential Elections held in the month of November 2016. Point to be noted that the U.S Intelligence officials had issued their predictions and judgments in the month of January 2017. They indicated that top Russian authorities were involved in conducting a hacking campaign against the infrastructure of the U.S Election. They launched cyber-attacks against the DNC (Democratic National Committee) and staff of the U.S election candidate Hillary Clinton. The documents of National Security Agency were published yesterday.
These documents have indicated that how Russia secretly attempted to penetrate in the U.S election systems. The documents also mentioned that what kind of information was targeted by the agents of Russia. It is important that the report didn’t mention whether these cyber-attacks directly affected the results of the U.S Election 2016. The National Security Agency mentioned that Russian hackers forwarded phishing emails in the month of August to the employees of a private U.S company. This company was responsible to build polling place. It is still not clear whether this phishing attempt was behind cyber-hacking, but there might be one account. The Russian hackers were supposedly trying to get information linked with the hardware & software applications regarding the U.S Election 2016.
