Oxford University Decided to Remove the Statue of Cecil Rhodes from Campus

The “Rhodes Must Fall” campaign started at the University of Cape Town, South Africa in the month of March 2015. The students of Cape Town University boosted the campaign and started motivation to push down the statue of Cecil Rhodes. Rhodes was the former Prime Minister of Cape Colony and he was a politician and businessman. He was considered one of the elements who were part of efforts to associate the South African land in the 18^th century. He generated a large amount of money and established the De Beers diamond firm. The “Rhodes Must Fall” campaign was well acknowledged at the University of South Africa, the school washed out the status in the month of April 2015.

Anti-colonialism activists and Students of other universities including Oxford University removed status as the part of the protest. Point to be noted that Oxford University is still offering the Scholarships as the elite Rhodes scholarship and a statue was stalled at the campus of Oriel University. In the month of January 2016, the students union of Oxford University decided to remove the statue from the campus. But, after a couple of weeks, they decided to keep it due to receiving threats by alumni to take back their millions of donations in the case of its removal.
