People in New York experienced a Huge Manhole Explosion at Time Square

New York is a city that is a place of various types of activities and peaceful People. Sunday night I experienced a terrible situation at Time Square in New York. People were found running after an explosion from a manhole created an alarming situation.

People heard a huge bang at 7 pm in the busy area of the city, which pushed people to run and find safe places. There were various videos and images showing the situation of the scene. A large number of locals and tourists were found running through the Manhattan streets after a sudden and huge explosion.

The authorities in New York City later confirmed that a manhole explosion near 215 W, 43rd Street caused sudden panic. The supposed terrible situation happened which also generated fear for residents and tourists. The FDNY (New York City Fire Department) said they discovered that smoke was also coming from 2 other nearby manholes.

Cable Failure was Behind the Explosion

Moreover, the spokesperson for the energy company, Con Edison, also confirmed that a cable failure actually caused the explosion. The energy company also issued a statement that they didn’t find customer outages at this time. There wasn’t any report of injuries or property damage. The company said its crew members are still on location and controlled the situation.

The emergency department in the city started evacuating people close to the scene for safety measures after the manhole explosion. The city fire department began searching surrounding buildings for increasing levels of carbon monoxide. It is noteworthy that a significant amount of carbon monoxide was discovered on 229 W. 43rd Street, an 18-story office building.

Various news outlets reported the incident. However, the firefighters immediately started venting and alleviating the cellar and sub-cellar of the building. A large number of people in the city heard the explosion and described the panic they felt after a huge bang. A resident of New York City informed a news outlet that there was supposedly a big black cloud after the explosion.

A user of Twitter also mentions how he feared the sudden explosion. He supposed it was seemingly an attack on New York City to convene the Holy Week of the Christian celebration. The Holy Week celebration is also known as Palm Sunday which started on April 10, 2022. He also tweeted that he was feeling relaxed with the start of the holy week, but it became very scary.

The New York City Fire Department left the scene of the explosion at 9 pm, after completing their excellent efforts. The department didn’t mention any injuries or massive damage to surrounding buildings after this fearful explosion.
