Pompeo advised All Americans should return immediately to the United States
U.S President Trump’s appointed Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo advised American citizens abroad who still need to return to the United States to do so immediately because commercial and government-chartered flights could soon stop operations following the COVID-19 epidemic. On Tuesday, Pompeo said he doesn’t know how long commercial flights will operate. He added that it is still unclear whether flights being chartered by the US government will be available in some countries, specifically for Americans to return home due to the widespread COVID-19. U.S Secretary of State urged all American citizens abroad who need to get back to the United States should contact the American embassy in the country.
He also said the operation will start for some selected countries to get Americans back immediately to the United States. He was also asked if US officials trust new data being shared regarding coronavirus cases and deaths inside China by that country’s government, but Pompeo rejected to comment. He said he would leave such assessments to the experts of the US government who have been monitoring and evaluating Chinese-provided data closely, for some time. He was asked about the situation in Afghanistan, Pompeo said the administration of Trump is expecting Taliban officials to live up to the terms of a recent peace pact. He is basing that assessment on recent meetings with the group’s leaders in Doha, Qatar.
It is important that all Americans should respect and adjust to the new health-rules and warnings, including social distancing, quarantine because of the increasing death toll caused by the widespread coronavirus. But, President Trump hasn’t yet stopped U.S border wall construction. It is noteworthy that there are numbers of migrants crossing illegally that are also being expelled from the country. The Washington Post also reported that illegal migrants entering the US are being expelled at an average of one person every 96 minutes. U.S Customs and Border Patrol agents are able to capture migrants and process them at the point of interception under the new guidelines.
