Presidents Day 2018 is being celebrated on Monday
Listen to this article

The 3rd Monday of every February is dedicated to remember former U.S Presidents and it offers to enjoy a day off work. The event was dedicated in 1885 in recognition of President George Washington. It is still officially called “Washington’s Birthday” by the federal government. Washington was born on 22nd Feb and the holiday became known as “Presidents Day” after it was moved as part of the Uniform Monday Holiday Act in 1971. The Presidents Day is now massively viewed as a day to celebrate entire former and present U.S Presidents.

Since Presidents Day is not the officially adopted name of the holiday, styles vary. The Associated Press Stylebook, which spells out the conventions followed by most news media, shuns the apostrophe. Webster’s Dictionary, a popular online source for spelling and style, adopts it as Presidents’ Day. Here are some key businesses that will and won’t be closed on 19th Feb 2018:

Mail services: The United States Postal Service will not deliver mail on Presidents Day, but UPS and FedEx will operate as usual.
Schools: Most public schools will be closed to observe the federal holiday, and many private schools will do the same. Some schools might be in session to make up for weather-related cancellations.
Grocery stores: Most grocery stores will be open.
Retail stores: Most department stores and retail shops will be open, many offering Presidents Day sales. Most restaurants will also remain open.
Banks: Most banks, including Federal Reserve Banks and Wells Fargo, will be closed. TD Bank will be open Presidents Day.
Stock markets: The New York Stock Exchange, Nasdaq and bond markets will be closed.
DMV: Department of Motor Vehicles offices across the U.S. will be closed. Kenton County is an exception to this. Both the Independence and the Covington offices are open 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Courts: Courts will not be in session.
