Russian President Vladimir Putin announced on Sunday that he is redirecting his nuclear forces into special combat facilities. This escalated alert status is supposedly similar to some of the most disastrous moments of the Cold War. President Biden and his aides could determine the recent move and deploy American armed troops on Defcon3.
The White House administration clearly indicated that the alert status of America had not changed. Joe Biden is currently looking to convince the Russian government to de-escalate. On Sunday, the American ambassador to the UN warned the Security Council. He said Russia wasn’t under threat, which rebuked President Putin for another unessential and upsurge step to threaten the world.
But most of the Biden administration officials indicated it as a sharp reminder for rapidly turning the Ukraine crisis into a worldwide conflict. The recent Russian declaration has promoted another concern about the mental condition of President Putin. However, James R. Clapper said some US officials think the Russian government started blaming Ukraine for its enormity and alleged for developing its own nuclear weapons.
The United States and EU Imposed New Sanctions
The announcement from Russia came hours after the United States and Europe announced new sanctions against the Russian government on Sunday. The new sanctions include a ban for various Russian banks to use the SWIFT financial messaging system. The SWIFT efficiently settles international accounts and it would harm the potential of the Russian central bank to stabilize.
A professor of government and foreign services and specialist in atomic strategy, Matthew Koenig issued a statement. He said the history is full of cases that show nuclear powers had jeopardized releasing their stock to threaten. Koenig also pointed out a conflict between Pakistan and India in 1999, Arab-Israel in 1973, and the Cuban missile crisis in 1962.
Koenig pointed out that former US President Donald Trump had leveled similar threats against the Korean leader Kim Jong-un. The recent reminder alerted many nuclear experts. One of them said the North Korean leader just mentioned that the Nuclear Button is always on his desk.
Trump later claimed that the threat was premeditated. It motivated Kim towards talks including 3 high-profile meetings between both leaders. However, the talks crumbled and the nuclear stockpile started increasing and now considerably much bigger.
The Recent Threats could Finish Soon
A representative for the Federation of American Scientists, David Kristensen said the recent threats could finish. But it needs clear evidence that the nuclear weapons are on their way from storage and ready for action. Some US experts believe that Putin needs to create an impression to increase the worries of the Washington administration.
It is noteworthy that Putin has reminded the world 2nd time in a week of having massive stockpiles and is ready to use. President Putin reportedly informed his generals that the recent declaration was due to the aggressive statements from the West about Ukraine.
Both the US and Russia had arranged drills that reproduce different status levels of nuclear alerts. The ground-based nuclear forces are always prepared for action because both countries have massive numbers of intercontinental ballistic missiles. The effective strategy of mutually confirmed destruction efficiently supported to prevent nuclear exchanges.
