Soy Sauce Made of Human Hair Being Sold in China
A TV journalist made an investigation and exposed the manufacturing of cheap soy sauce. The journalist bought cheap soy sauce manufactured in Hubei province China and indicated that the cheap soy sauce is being manufactured by amino acid syrup or powder and human hair are also being used in its preparation. He said that it surprised me about every food item including organic labeled products coming from China. An article was also published on a website ‘Journal of Toxicology’, but this article didn’t add any link with the published description. Most of the online searches found an article published in 2005 with a title ‘Hair Soy Sauce, A Revolting Alternative to Conventional’, but it is now disappeared.
In the month of January 2004, the ‘Weekly Quality Report’ an investigating team of journalists at the China Central Television (CCTV) aired an investigated production of the HongShuai Soy Sauce. The investigation team of journalists visited Hubei province at the sauce food manufacturer. They assumed to be buyers to find out the soy sauce making ingredients and process. A manager told us that the soy sauce is being made by the syrup of amino acid, water, red sugar, hydrochloric acid, sodium hydroxide and other chemical elements. The investigation team indicated that manufacturers purchase minimum a thousand tons of amino acid syrup or powder and produce thousands tons of soya sauce. It is important that a segment aired on CCTV in 2004 confirmed that soya sauce is being manufactured by human hairs in China.
