Suicide Bomb Attack Near Times Square in Manhattan
On Monday, a supposed suicide attacker detonated a pipe bomb attached to his body in the heart of busiest subway corridor of Manhattan. A large number of scared commuters evacuated the smoked passageways. It also brought the heart of Midtown to a deadlock due to hundreds of police officers concentrated on Times Square and its surrounding streets. It was pointed out that the makeshift weapon stopped to fully detonate and the attacker himself was the only suspect and victim of the incident. The suspect was seriously injured in the unsuccessful bomb blast and it took place at 7:20 am. The law enforcement officials have indicated that the alleged attacker was identified as 27-years old Akayed Ullah. He selected this specific location due to its Christmas-themed posters and he was motivated as recalled strikes in Europe.
The attacker informed investigators that he made this move in revenge for the airstrikes of United States against the targets of ISIS in Syria and other Muslim populated areas. It has been considered 3rd attack in the New York City since the month of November 2016 and 2nd within two months. The incident happened just after a couple of weeks when 8 people were killed by a truck attack along bike path of Hudson River. The 3rd attack on Monday has been considered as “lone-wolf” terrorist attack. The explosion on Monday morning endorsed through the subway tunnels just off Times Square and filled parts of the Port Authority Bus Terminal with smoke and commuters fled from tunnel. The port authority police officers have arrested injured Akayed Ullah.
