The Chronological Feed is Now Back for Instagram Users Worldwide

The Chronological Feed is Now Back for Instagram Users Worldwide

Most of us have experienced after the launch of Instagram that our feed actually showed posts based on the uploading time. However, the latest posts were always at the top and older posts further down according to priority levels. Meanwhile, Instagram later changed this mechanism and began to show posts based on an algorithm.

The algorithm is aimed at how you deal with those accounts. It would bring your selected posts to the top if you want to like or comment more on those posts. It is noteworthy to those who haven’t yet experienced the feature that it is now back. Instagram has confirmed it will present the feature in the form of ‘Favorites’.

This list of Favorites is actually an organized list allowing you to add accounts according to a more interesting field in the list. The social platform said users will experience chronological posts in their Favorites feed. It clearly indicates users will find accounts in their more desired location such as family and friends.

The New Change Will Add Users Worldwide

Users can also choose the ‘Following’ field if they need to go back to their normal feed. It would enable you to go back to their actual feed based on the Instagram algorithm. Keep in mind that Instagram users are now getting the latest update. You can check it out if you are interested in this feature.

Multiple reports have also confirmed on March 23 that Instagram is bringing back its previous chronological feed. The app will again offer the capability for users to see feed posts according to their priority information. The social platform has switched to an algorithmic-rank feed after at least 5 years.

The company also confirmed that the latest versions of the feed have started working in December 2021. The new change in the app will now include all users worldwide. However, the new chronological option isn’t active by default and users don’t need to find its algorithms.

3 Versions for Your Feeds

The new update would enable users to move between 3 different versions for their feeds. Users can tap on the new dropdown menu at the top left corner of the app to navigate between the 3 feeds

These 3 different versions include ‘Home, Following, and Favorites’. The Home feed keeps the default option. The Following feed maintains the opposite chronological order for the accounts you follow. The Favorites can maintain a feed of your at least 50 more favorite accounts.

However, users will not find the activated chronological feed by default but are now coming back as an important Instagram feature. The company defended for years its decision to switch to an algorithmic feed. It is important that the social platform took measures in spite of complaints about conspiracy theories over shadow-bans.

The Announcement of New Ranking Algorithm

In June 2021, the social platform published a blog post providing information about the working of ranking algorithms. The top executive of Instagram, Adam Mosseri made a great announcement in the blog post. He said Instagram shifted away in 2016 from a chronological feed. Users were experiencing a 70% loss to their entire posts in the feed including almost 33% of posts from their close links.

It is important that the algorithm has become an essential subject for Instagram. However, it is experiencing scrutiny for the effects on the mental health of teens. The social platform has also been found more antagonistic in adding ‘suggested posts’ and ‘Reels’ in recent months into users’ feeds. Instagram can eliminate complaints with its new versions for feed.
