The implementation of Last Obamacare Rule
Today, one of the last Obamacare provisions to be implemented comes into effect after the delay of years. The new rule needs restaurant chains, convenience stores, grocers, and movie theaters with at least 20 locations to post calorie counts for their items and foods. The new rule experienced 3 delays after finalizing the rule in 2013. The administration of Donald Trump hasn’t supported various Obamacare initiatives, but let this rule to come into effect. The Conservatives in the U.S Congress are unhappy with this legislation and they tried in making changes in the rule. But, the national standard has the support of the NRA (National Restaurant Association).
The NRA needed to help its members preventing complying with patchwork laws at the city and state levels. Last year, the administration of Donald Trump silently fought the implementation of at least one of these municipal standards. Some studies have discovered that calorie labeling can decrease the amount a person consumes by 12%. The Food and Drug Administration Commissioner Scott Gottlieb said that these calorie savings are small when taken on their own and they add up to a fruitful, incremental step towards fixing the obesity epidemic in the country. The U.S Food and Drug Administration might be focusing on educating restaurants on how to comply instead of enforcing the rule during its first year of implementation.
