The Time Magazine reported that Adolf Hitler was named “Man of the Year” and a meme with this claim was circulated on most of the social media websites in 2016. It was published as a “Proof” that Mainstream news & social media not to be considered a reliable source of information. But, we can’t deny a truth that the Nazi leader was awarded this title in the year 1938. Point to be noted that the meme was based on wrong appropriation that the awards Man of the Year only given for those who had positive life effects on the world.

Most of the choices for person of the year by Time Magazine are provocative. Editors are asked to choose person or thing of the year that had greatest impact on the world news, whether good or bad. The Time Magazine started the tradition in the year 1927 and it has nominated a number of disputed figures to award the “Man of the Year”. Some of them are Nikita Kruschchev, Ayatullah Khomeini and Joseph Stalin. Osama bin Laden was also nominated in 2001, but the award was given to the Mayor of New York Rudy Giuliani. The Time Magazine reported in the year 1938 for “Man of the Year” for Hitler. He was considered having the most powerful threatening force.
