Trump criticized The New York Times over its El Paso Headline
The U.S President Donald Trump has attacked The New York Times over its decision to change the headline of a story regarding his response to the El Paso and Dayton shootings. The newspaper was forced to change its front-page headline on Tuesday over its portrayal of Trump’s speech following the attacks in Texas and Ohio. The first headline indicated, “TRUMP URGES UNITY VS RACISM”, but was changed to, “ASSAILING HATE BUT NOT GUNS” following outrage as the portrayal of the U.S president as a unifier.
Trump tweeted early on Wednesday morning, “’Trump Urges Unity Vs. Racism,’ was the correct description in the first headline by the Failing New York Times, but it was quickly changed to, ‘Assailing Hate But Not Guns,’ after the Radical Left Democrats went absolutely CRAZY! Fake News”. Trump then tweeted a quote from Mark Penn (a marketing executive and former adviser to Bill and Hillary Clinton). He had appeared on Fox News to discuss the headline change. Trump tweeted, “‘That’s what we’re up against. This is an astounding development in journalism. I’ve never seen it happen before, I’ve just never seen anything like this! Is that journalism today? I don’t think so!’ Mark Penn, Former Clinton Advisor”.
He added, “After 3 years I almost got a good headline from the Times”! The headline of New York Times for their first edition of Tuesday’s paper was picked up on by the author and statistician Nate Silver and tweeted an image of the front page. He tweeted, “Not sure “TRUMP URGES UNITY VS. RACISM” is how I would have framed the story”. Democratic presidential contender Beto O’Rourke called it “unbelievable” while New York City’s mayor, Bill de Blasio, questioned the paper’s tagline: “The truth is worth it.” He wrote: “Not the truth. Not worth it.”
