Trump is planning to offer Government Facilities to Homeless American People
A White House spokesperson said Trump has taken notice of the homelessness crisis particularly in cities and states where the liberal policies of overregulation, excessive taxation, and poor public service delivery are combining to dramatically increase poverty and public health risks. A new report has indicated the U.S President Donald Trump is getting ready housing homeless people in government facilities. On Tuesday, Trump administration officials visited Los Angeles to study the homelessness crisis in the city. The Los Angeles Times reported that at least 36,000 people live in makeshift camps on the streets of the city, while 59,000 people are homeless in Los Angeles County. The Washington Post also said Trump administration officials are making a plan to raze the existing camps and house the homeless population in government facilities.
The recent proposal is a fluid one but it is still unclear if the White House has the legal authority to open such Centers. The proposal will see the federal government taking a greater role in overseeing housing and healthcare for facility residents. Trump administration officials made the Los Angeles trip 2 months after Trump blamed the Liberal Establishment for homelessness in cities including Los Angeles and San Francisco. The Mayor’s office of The Los Angeles said the federal group visited several housing projects, including a recently opened shelter. Trump has repeatedly insulted the leaders of California because of a heavily Democratic state.
The Democratic mayor of Los Angeles, Eric Garcetti issued a public invitation to the U.S President to walk the city’s streets with him and discuss the homelessness crisis. The State officials are hopeful to receive federal funding to help in providing more housing and improved services. On Tuesday, the governor of California, Gavin Newsom said that the State was ready to discuss serious proposals. He added that the U.S President could start by ending his plans to cut food stamps, gut health care for low-income people and scare immigrant families from accessing government services. The mayor of San Francisco, London Breed also delivered similar words. Breed said his city would welcome federal assistance but simply cracking down on homelessness without providing the housing that people need is not a real solution.
