Taoiseach Leo Varadkar said the visit of the U.S President Donald Trump to Ireland should be respected. He admitted that the trip of Trump had come out of the blue. The Irish Prime Minister added that there was an invitation for any U.S President to visit Ireland, but the Irish government was unaware about the Trump’s plan to visit Ireland in the month of November until days ago. Varadkar informed the Marty Squad on RTE Radio 1 that there is an open invitation to the U.S President to visit Ireland at any time. All the U.S presidents also visited since Reagan, if not before and obviously, there’s an open invitation in future for taoiseach to attend Washington in March. He added that we will have to make sure that we have enough time and space to commemorate the Armistice because bear in mind hundreds of thousands of Irish people, including a lot of people from this city, fought in the First World War.

Varadkar added that we need to make sure that’s appropriate and fits around that as well. The news of Trump’s visit in November was immediately met by calls for protests by opposition parties and activists. He said that he understood many people in Ireland don’t like Trump due to he disagreed with many of his policies, but he is the president of America. He was elected according to their election process. The relationship between Ireland and the United States is much stronger and important. The comments of Varadkar came after it was announced that a giant balloon depicting Trump as a baby is set to join planned protests for the visit of U.S president. Point to be noted that the British campaigners are behind the baby balloon protest, but the Irish trip was a perfect opportunity to troll the U.S leader again.
