Why Andrew Puzder Withdrew his Nomination as the U.S. Labor Secretary?
The fast food executive Andrew Puzder withdrew his nomination on 15th February 2017 after growing dual-party opposition. He was nominated to serve as the Labor Secretary for the administration of the U.S President Donald Trump. The Washington Post has indicated that the nomination of Puzder was opposed by at least 12 senators from Republican Party. A Republican from South Carolina, Tim Scott said in a statement that he was impressed after a meeting with Puzder. Sen. Tim Scott added that now opinion has changed. Point to be noted that Puzder also experienced disapproval from the Democrat Senators, including Elizabeth Warren from Massachusetts. Warren had sent a 28-page letter to Puzder and blamed him for displaying a Sneering Contempt for his employees.
The confirmation hearing regarding Puzder was scheduled for today 16th February 2017. He had already affirmed to separate himself from his involvement in CKE Restaurants Inc. (it has been considered a parent company of the Carl’s Jr. and Hardees fast food chains). His announcement of pulling his nomination was came on the same day as the reports indicated that he was a defendant in a sexual harassment lawsuit filed in the year 2004. This lawsuit was filed by the former CKE executive Caroline Leakan. She indicated in the lawsuit that it was a habit of Puzder for reaching down to his genitals & adjusting himself in front of her. Leakan also blamed that Puzder needed to take her to Mexico to “Help Her Relax”. But, the company recently filed a lawsuit on 8th February 2017 for allegedly wage-fixing by restaurant franchises.
