William Barr forwarded a letter to U.S Congress following Mueller’s Report
The U.S President Donald Trump arranged a joint press conference with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Trump held the press conference to sign a proclamation formally recognizing Israeli sovereignty over the Golan Heights. It is noteworthy that the attorney-general William Barr is a Trump ally handpicked by the U.S President. Barr made his conclusion that Trump hadn’t colluded with Russia to win the 2016 presidential election following the reading FBI special counsel Robert Mueller’s report. The report was submitted following the conclusion of a 22-month investigation into the allegation.
Barr quoted in a 4-page letter to the U.S Congress Mueller in conceding, “While this report doesn’t conclude that the president committed a crime, it also does not exonerate him”. A number of actions were carried out by Trump could raise obstruction of justice concerns, Mueller thought, but Barr and his deputy Rod Rosenstein decided these actions didn’t reveal due to corrupt intent. Trump was quick to hail the verdict as a complete and total exoneration. He repeated his long-running attack on the Witch Hunt as an illegal takedown that failed. Moreover, Democrats called for the full release of the Mueller report.
The summary from Barr points the special counsel’s office didn’t draw a conclusion, one way or the other, as to whether the examined conduct constituted obstruction, but instead of setting out evidence for both sides and left the question unanswered. The attorney general also wrote in the summary that he ultimately decided the evidence developed by Mueller was not sufficient to establish for the purposes of prosecution that Trump committed obstruction of justice. Barr’s summary also pointed out that Mueller didn’t find the Trump campaign conspired or coordinated with Russia. The special counsel’s office must generally meet a standard of proving an offense beyond a reasonable doubt to prove a crime.
